As the fool steps out on to their journey they wonder down an overgrown path in the woods. The sun shines bright and the breeze passes over their skin in a gentle way. Night soon starts to descend and our young fool starts to question the choice they made to step out, but in the twilight of night the fool sees someone in a small clearing ahead: The Mage. Mesmerized by the tools on his altar the fools as how he acquired such items. The mage tells the young fool that the tools on is alter symbolize what lies in us all: the emotions of the chalice, the intellect of the sword, the passion of the wand, and the physical manifestation of our world in the pentacle. The fool leaves the mage after a short time to continue down his path unafraid of the night.
When you pull the Magician in a reading you are being reminded that everything you will ever need is already within you. The Universe is on your altar. You are the mage that can wield these tools at your will. It is easy to forget that we have power over ourselves and our lives. We are not at the mercy of anything (except Mother Nature). The Mage is here to tell us as we face the darkness of the night, we have what it takes as we already are. All we must do is pick up the tool from within.
