The tarot deck, as mentioned in a previous post, has 78 cards. The first 22 are the major arcana. As you approach the major arcana think of it as your soul's journey to awakening and self awareness. They represent the major lessons we will face in life, themes that tie us together...universal meanings. The first in the set of cards is The Fool.
As the fool starts out on their journey they are filled with enthusiasm and joy! Their hopes and dreams are out there to be discovered. The world is theirs for the taking! You get a sense when looking at the image on the Rider-Waite card that the youth doesn't seem to have a care in the world. They simple through a few things in their travel sack, picked a flower, and off they go with their dog on an adventure! However, when you look closer you see quite clearly that the might not last a moment with is head turned up to the sky, not noticing the cliff they are about to walk off. It even looks like their dog is trying to warn them of this dangerous misstep.
When you get the fool in a reading it signifies a new start for you. You are about to embark on a new adventure that will be full of trials, and joy, lessons, new insights, and it will change you. You feel bold and enthusiasm seeps forth from you. You are open minded to what awaits you, you look forward to the darkness trusting the everything will be ok. The sun is shinning down on your, supporting you, you have what it takes!
In this "burst through the door without a second thought" feeling you are experiencing it is easy to find recklessness in your behavior. The fool tells us to be enthusiastic and burst through that door to reach your hopes and dreams....but to think, plan a ahead, know what you are truly going after , and be mindful of the steps you take. You are correct to feel optimistic and enthusiast at what waits you, but listen to your dog and watch out for that cliff.
